Rcom extends agreement with Reliance Jio to within-city fiber

After tying up contracts for leasing out towers and inter-city (between city) fibre connections, Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications has signed a deal with Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio Infocomm to lease out intra-city (within city) fibre to connect individual towers.

The agreement comes three months after RCom said it was in talks with Reliance Jio to lease out intra-city connections.

RCom said the pricing will be ‘at arms length’.

The deal marks a victory for the Anil Ambani group as Jio had many more options for intra-city fibre compared to towers and inter-city cables.

The contract will cover nearly 500,000 fiber pair kms across the top 300 cities and towns in India and allow Reliance Jio to accelerate the rollout of its 4g services.

RCom said it is discussing other initiatives for mutual co-operation with Jio.
