Godrej Properties starts sales of flats in RK Studios

Real estate developer Godrej Properties has opened booking for its first flats in RK Studio, the 2.2-acre film studio established over six decades ago by legendary actor Raj Kapoorj.

The Vikhroli, Mumbai-based developer had purchased the studio property for an undisclosed amount in May this year and announced plans to put up 3.5 lakh square feet of built-up residential property.

The property is located on the main road that leads to New Bombay in what was once a suburb of Mumbai, but is today well within the city limits.

Given the prominent and easily accessible location, it is perhaps not surprising that Godrej Properties is looking at high-end residences as part of the project.

The first flats being made available for sale are called Collector’s Edition, and are positioned in ‘luxury’ category. The flats are available in three- and four-bedroom configurations.

“Like the many stories that have been filmed within its walls, this development on RK Studios’ land, through its architecture, well-designed opulent spaces, and curated amenities, creates the perfect backdrop for residents here to live their stories,” the developer said.

RK Studio played a crucial role in the development of Indian cinema, just like its founder Raj Kapoor, considered the most influential figure of early Indian cinema due to his towering personality and commercial success.

“The Collector’s Edition Residences offer architecture that takes inspiration from Bombay Art Deco design. The development will offer state-of-the-art amenities, plush specifications, and strong security attributes. It will also seek to celebrate the legacy of this site by retaining some of its best known features.”

Pirojsha Godrej, Executive Chairman, Godrej Properties said his company will “seek to ensure we celebrate the remarkable legacy of the site” by developing a “landmark” project.

Besides offering easy access to New Bombay, the location is also very close to the mouth of the Eastern Freeway elevated road and can help a resident reach South Mumbai in about 30 minutes.

It is also only a couple of kilometers from the Eastern Express Highway that goes to Thane.

Godrej Properties has emerged as one of the most successful real estate companies in the wake of the global financial crisis of 2008, which saw most of its competitors pushed to the brink of bankruptcy.

However, Godrej Properties has continued to go from strength to strength, even as its rivals have had to focus on remaining afloat in the turbulent waters.
