With new aircraft, SpiceJet announces 24 new flights

Days after it announced its intention to add new aircraft to its fleet, SpiceJet said it would add 24 new flights over hte next 7-15 days.

Of these, 16 will connect Mumbai, four will connect Delhi while the rest will connect the two metros with each other.

The new flights from Mumbai are to Jaipur, Patna, Bagdogra, Amritsar, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Kolkata and Mangaluru.

The new SpiceJet flights from Delhi are to Patna, Mumbai and Bangalore.

The move comes a week after it said it would add 16 new aircraft to its network over the coming days.

All the new flights introduced will be operational daily.

The timing and dates of commencement of operations of the flights are given below.

The move is seen as an attempt to seize the opportunity opened by the shutting of one of India’s biggest airlines, Jet Airways, which stopped operations yesterday after running out of money.

Jet Airways used to operate hundreds of flights every day.

“The industry is currently facing severe shortage of capacity and SpiceJet remains committed to make all possible efforts to minimize passenger inconvenience,” said Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet.

The airline had last week announced three new domestic flights on the Mumbai-Varanasi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Chennai-Mumbai and Mumbai-Kolkata-Mumbai sectors.

With this, the total number of flights announced from the city within a week goes up to 14 flights.

SpiceJet has also announced non-stop international flights to Hong Kong, Jeddah, Dubai, Colombo, Dhaka, Riyadh, Bangkok and Kathmandu from Mumbai effective May-end. The airline will deploy its Boeing 737-800 NG aircrafts on all the routes, it has said.
