Bajaj Auto reports 45% jump in domestic 2-wheeler sales for Nov 2108

Bajaj Auto reported a 45% jump in two-wheeler sales in India in November, while overall sales of two-wheelers and three-wheelers, including exports, were up 25%.

India two-wheeler sales jumped to 2.05 lakh in November from 1.42 lakh last year.

However, compared to October, sales were down from 2.82 lakh.

Nevertheless, the performance is better than that of Hero MotoCorp, which reported flat year-on-year sales and a sharp decline on a sequential (month-on-month) basis.

Hero had blamed a confusion regarding insurance two-wheeler insurance premia for contributing to the poor performance this year.

Bajaj Auto’s overall sales numbers, including three-wheelers and exports, were at 4.07 lakh in November, up from 3.26 lakh last year.

However, compared to October, they were down from 5.07 lakh.

In case of Bajaj Auto, it was not just the two-wheeler sales that were impacted.

Sales of commercial vehicles, mostly auto-rickshaws, were at 29,559 in November, down 22% compared to last year.

The motorcycle growth for November is above average for the year. For the year so far, two-wheeler sales in India are up 30% at 17.74 lakh.

However, the growth of 16% in two-wheeler exports was below average. Bajaj Auto exported 1.41 lakh two-wheelers in the month, down from 1.51 lakh in September.
