Reliance Jio shares Fiber offer details on website

Reliance Jio has updated its website, jio.com, with a single, prepaid fiber broadband plan.

“Currently our JioFiber services are Prepaid. We plan to launch the JioFiber Post-paid in due course of time,” the company said on its website.

Under the single, prepaid plan, a user can get a monthly data quota of 100 GB as well free access to Jio apps.

“In case, you consume 100 GB of your data quota within a month, you can continue to enjoy our high speed internet services by performing a complimentary data top-up of 40 GB,” it said.

The Hindu, in a report quoting unnamed sources, said there would be a limit of 25 such recharges per month, taking the total available free data to 1.1 TB per month.

Jio also said it is not charging any installation fees.

“As this is a preview offer, there are no installation charges levied but there is a refundable security deposit of Rs.4,500 taken for the ONT device (GigaHub Home Gateway),” the telecom operator said on its website.

“This amount is to be paid through a cheque in favour of Reliance Retail Limited,” it added.

The ‘gateway device’ is more than a simple fiber router, but can also double up as a set-top-box for watching television programs.

Unlike normal cable TV boxes, however, the Jio box will support rewind, pause and video on demand features on all or most channels.

The company, however, has not given any tool on its website to check whether the services are available in a particular locality or not. At present, availability of the services is mostly restricted to apartment complexes.

The speed of connection, as has already been reported, will be a maximum of 100 Mbps under the current plan.

In a report, the Hindu also said the company will launch more plans in the second half of this year.

It is believed that Reliance Jio will eventually roll out its broadband-cum-cable services across the country, leading to consolidation in the sector which currently has tens of thousands of operators.
