Hero MotoCorp posts records sales for March, full year

Hero MotoCorp said it sold 7.3 lakh motorcycles in March 2017, marking the highest number of monthly sales in its history.

The strong performance also helped Hero MotoCorp make another record for the highest ever number of motorcycles sold in a year.

The company sold 7.59 million (76 lakh) motorcycles and scooters in a financial year that ended in March.

No other company anywhere in the world had ever sold as many two-wheelers in a single year, Hero said. The company’s annual production capacity is 9.2 mln units.

Hero also said it has also lined up a “slew of new launches” for the new financial year.

These include Xtreme 200R and XPulse motorcycles and Duet 125 and Maestro Edge 125 scooters.

While the march sales were higher 20% compared to the same month of last year, the full-year sales were up by 14%.

“Our overall global sales growth has given further impetus to our global expansion plans,” said Chairman, Managing Director & CEO Pawan Munjal.

Hero launched three new bikes – Passion PRO, Passion XPRO and Super Splendor, in the third quarter of the last fiscal year.

Last month, the company started construction at its eighth manufacturing facility in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.

“With this additional facility, the Company will have a cumulative capacity of 11 million units annually,” it said.
