Jet Airways said it will challenge the order of the Competition Commission of India to impose a fine of Rs 39.81 cr for allegedly colluding with its rivals to fix air fares.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Competition Commission said Jet Airways, SpiceJet and IndiGo engaged in “concerted action in fixing and revising Fuel Surcharge” – a component of freight charges and held them guilty of violating the Competition Act.
Jet Airways said it will pursue all available legal steps to defend its position “as it believes that it is not in contravention of the provisions of the Competition Act.”
The order had come on a complaint filed by Express Industry Council of India.
This is the second order passed by the CCI on the matter. The original order, given in 2015, had imposed a penalty of Rs 152 cr on Jet Airways.
However, it said, it was lowering the penalty considering the financial condition of the airlines and after excluding revenue that was not related to the matter at hand.
