Bajaj Auto reports 21% jump in motorcycle sales in Feb

Bajaj Auto reported yet another month of strong sales in February, with overall motorcycle sales rising 21% on year to 2.98 lakh units. In January, they were up 36% to 2.89 lakh.

Domestic sales of motorcycles were up 23% at 1.75 lakh in February compared to an increase of 36% seen in January to 1.63 lakh. Exports of motorcycles rose 19% to 1.22 lakh, compared to an increase of 37% in January to 1.26 lakh.

This is the second month of strong growth for the company, which had been seeing declining motorcycle sales this year so far.

With one month to go, the total motorcycle shipments in the financial year so far is in the positive territory, with a growth of 4%.

However, the growth in the current financial year has been led by exports, which grew by 14% in the 11 months to 12.84 lakh.

Domestic sales is still under water by 2% at 18.16 lakh in 11 months, or an average of 1.65 lakh per month.

THREE WHEELERS

Total three-wheelers sold in February was 60,367, compared to 64,211 in January. This was more than double the 28,555 three-wheelers sold in Feb last year.

Last month, the company had sold 39,082 three-wheelers, a monthly record.

Exports of three-wheelers were up 86% 21,835, compared to a rise of 71% in January to 25,129.

For the year so far, total three-wheeler sales are up 37% at 5.73 lakh.
