Hexa helps Tata Motors post 26% India sales growth in August

Tata Motors passenger and commercial vehicles total sales including exports rose 14% in August, while domestic sales rose 26%.

The company sold 48,988 vehicles in the month, out of which 45,906 were sold in India.

It said it found “growing demand across segments and increased positive customer sentiments” in its home market.

Domestic – Passenger Vehicles

Passenger vehicle sales in India jumped by 10% in the domestic market to 14,340, one of the strongest performances in recent months, due to strong demand for HEXA SUV.

Out of this, the car segment remained flat at 11,462 while the UV segment grew by 84% at 2,878.

The numbers were also “bolstered by the strong demand for the Tata Tiago and the Tata Tigor,” the automaker said.

With this, India sales of passenger vehicles is up 10% so far this year.

Hexa is THE successor to the not-so-successful Tata Aria and is the car maker’s new flagship crossover model.

The prices for the all model starts at Rs 11.99 lakhs for the base XE model, and goes up to Rs 17.49 lakhs for the range topping XT 4×4 variant. The utility vehicle has seen good reception from the market, as has the company’s models such as Tiago and Tigor.

Domestic – Commercial Vehicles

The overall commercial vehicles sales in August 2017 rose 34% to 31,566.

“The sales grew on the back of growing demand across segments supported by the continued ramp-up in production of BSIV vehicles since April this year.

“The company also passed on the benefits of GST to consumers by reducing the prices of its vehicles across all commercial vehicle segments,” it said.

The medium and heavy CV segment saw a strong growth of 52% to 10,926.

“This segment witnessed strong pick-up in demand on the back of continuously increasing acceptance of the SCR technology, and driven by stricter implementation of regulatory norms on overloading, as well as sector specific (Trucks and Construction Tippers) demand,” the company said.

The intermediate and light truck segment also saw 44% growth to 3,881. “due to increased buying with the onset of festive season.”

Tata Motors Passenger Carriers sales (including buses) fell by 4% in August to 4,078 “largely due to delay in procurement from the State Transport Undertakings.”

The SCV (small commercial vehicle) cargo and pickup segment continued the growth momentum at 12,681 nos., higher by 35% over 9,377 units, last August 2016, on the back of growing demand for new product introductions of the XL range of Tata Ace and the Tata Xenon Yodha pickup.

Exports

The company’s sales from exports was at 3,082 in August 2017, a decline of 53%, compared to 6,595 vehicles sold in August 2016, due to continued drop in industry volumes in Sri Lanka and Nepal.
