Micromax Canvas Selfie Lens is now available with some retailers in Delhi at a price of Rs 8,000. The phone, however, is not available online yet, but should hit eBay and other stores soon.

The highlight of the Lolipop phone is the attention that has been given to the two cameras – the 5 MP one at the front and the 8 MP shooter at the back – and the ‘beautify’ software inside it.

Both cameras come with lens made by Largan Precision, which normally supplies lens to high-end smartphones such as the iPhone.

The sensor on the front camera has been made by OmniVision while that on the back has been made by Sony.

In other words, for Rs 8,000, you are unlikely to get a phone with better cameras.

But that is about it. The 5-inch display on the Micromax Canvas Selfie Lens is made with IPS technology and has a resolution of 720p.

There is no 4G, even though models such as the Q Lux Blade (price Rs 4,999) and the Coolpad Dazen 1 (price Rs 5,999) come with built in 4G.

Processor, again, is on the weaker side – a quad-core MediaTek MT6582, while RAM is again on the lower side at 1 GB. The only saving grace, other than the camera, is the battery, which is 2.8 Ah in capacity.

So, should you consider the Micromax Canvas Selfie Lens? Only if you take lots of photographs and can’t shell out more than Rs 8,000 for a phone. For others, it would make more sense to buy 4G models such as the two mentioned above or Lenovo A6000 Plus or A7000. They would offer a far superior experience for this kind of price compared to the Micromax Canvas Selfie Lens.

However, for those who really care about their pictures, the Selfie Lens is almost unbeatable in the sub-10000 price range.

Micromax had earlier launched a Selfie phone, which, priced at Rs 16,000, did not exactly light up the sales charts for the company. That phone came with 13-MP cameras on both sides.
