Maruti Suzuki Celerio crosses one lakh sales mark in 2018-19

Automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki said that its Celerio models crossed the one lakh annual sales milestone. Celerio sold 1.03 lakh units of vehicles in 2018-19, an increase of 10% from previous year.

Apart from Celerio, other Maruti Suzuki cars in the club of over 1-lakh sales include Vitara Brezza, Dzire, Baleno, Swift, WagonR and Alto.

Celerio has sold more than 4.7 lakh units since its launch in 2014.

Celerio replaced Suzuki’s earlier models such as A-Star and Zen Estilo and was launched to compete with popular vehicle models such as Tata Indica, Honda Brio, Hyundai i10, Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat, and Nissan Micra Active.

It was the first car to bring the Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology to the Indian automobile industry

AGS is a type gearbox which automatically shifts gears by hydraulically locking and unlocking the system of gears

It is different from the more expensive CVT or continuously variable transmission, which uses a chain-based technology to provide differing gear ratios without any abrupt ‘steps’ or ‘shifts’.

AGS is more popular in India as it adds only about Rs 40,000 rupees or so to the cost, while CVT systems cost Rs 1 lakh and more.

Apart from Celerio, Maruti offers AGS technology in Alto K10, WagonR, Celerio, Swift, IGNIS and Dzire and Vitara Brezza.

While nearly 31% of customers have opted for AGS variants, 20% of total Celerio sales are of CNG variant, India’s largest carmaker said

Along with AGS technology, Celerio is equipped with safety features like Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), driver airbag, Reverse Parking Assist System (RPAS), driver and co-driver seat belt reminder and high speed alert system.
