Pharmaceutical manufacturer Zydus Cadila said it received final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration to launch Atenolol and Chlorthalidone tablets to treat hypertension and chest pain.
The company did not reveal the market size of the drug.
Atenolol, sold under the brand name Tenormin, is a beta blocker medication used to treat high blood pressure and heart-associated chest pain. The drug is also used for the prevention and treatment of migraines and certain heart-related problems.
Chlorthalidone, also known as Thalitone, is a medication prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure, congestive heart failure and edema. It is mainly a water pill, causing the body to get rid of extra salt and water. The drug also helps to relax the blood vessels so that blood can flow easily.
The combination drug will be sold in doses of 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg.
With the latest nod, the company has so far received 253 approvals and filed over 330 applications for sales of various drug products.
Headquartered in Ahmedabad, Zydus Cadila has manufacturing sites and research facilities across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim and even in the United States and Brazil.
