IMD issues rainfall warning for Himalayan states, NE and Jharkhand

The Indian Meteorological Department has warned about heavy rains in the Himalayan states, Bihar, Jharkhand and North East.

There will be heavy rains in these regions for five days starting from today.

“Heavy to very heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya; heavy at isolated places over Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sub­ Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura,” the department said.

The biggest warning has been sounded for Assam.

Widespread rain has been forecast for these regions.

The met department also released maps showing the forecast and warnings.

India has had relatively heavy rains this monsoon season after two years of below-normal monsoons in the country.

2015 and 2016 had seen weak monsoons that led to drought-like conditions in many areas, particularly in the Deccan plateau and in South India in general.
