Congress and allies win assembly polls in Kerala, West Bengal and Assam

Congress led United Progressive Alliance are heading towards victories in 3 of the 4 major states whose results are being announced today.

BJP ally, All Indian Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhakam or AIADMK, led by Jayalalitha, is likely to win the other big state — Tamil Nadu.

In Tamil Nadu, Jayalalitha is likely to have an emphatic win, with nearly two thirds majority.

In Kerala, UDF, the Congress alliance, are likely to have just 2 or 3 more seats than required to form the government — pointing to possible defections and instability.

In West Bengal, however, Trinamool Congress, Congress’ dominant partner has swept to power with almost three-quarters majority.

Assam too is going with the Congress party, with more than half of the seats going to the party alone, without any allies.
