Airtel gives 30 GB free to those who upgrade to 4G handset

Bharti Airtel said it will now give 30 GB of free 4G data to any of its existing customers who upgrade to a 4G phone from a 2G or 3G device.

Prepaid customers will get 1 GB data every day for 30 days over and above any pack they charge with, it said.

Postpaid customers will get FREE 30 GB data (with rollover) in their first bill cycle over and above their plan benefits.

The company did not clarify if these users need to be on an unlimited plan to qualify for the freebie.

Customers can check the eligibility and claim the free data benefits by calling the toll free number 51111 or on My Airtel App. The 30 GB FREE data benefit will be provisioned within 24 hours of making the claim.

More information will also be available on its website at airtel.in/4gupgrade.

Airtel said it will promote the new scheme using a brand campaign on TV and digital media.

“While 4G smartphones are fast becoming the norm, for millions of customers with feature phones/3G devices the upgrade to a 4G smartphone is a big decision and a long term investment,” said Vani Venkatesh, CMO, Bharti Airtel.

The move is expected to help the company retain customers who upgrade to 4G devices from going to rivals like Reliance Jio, which offer cheaper data rates.

“This is one of the largest customer rewarding programs & with this initiative our customers shall get an opportunity to experience the online world at 4G speeds and fully unlock the potential of their smartphones,” Venkatesh said.

The company also has a program for making available affordable 4G smartphones under various ‘cash back’ schemes.

That initiative has received very positive response from customers across India, it said.

Airtel has already tied up with Samsung, Intex, Karbonn, Lava, Celkon, Motorola, Lenovo, Nokia, Itel, Zen, Karbonn and Lephone.
