Redmi Note 4G in India – Expect a dog-fight to get hold of it

At the end of a long wait, Xiaomi India, or Mi India as it prefers to be called, launched its first 4G device in the country – the Redmi Note, priced at Rs 9,999.

Powered by 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8928 processor, the Redmi Note 4G is great value for money whichever way you look at it.

First, it is without doubt the cheapest LTE device India. Before this, the distinction belonged to the LG F60, which was priced at Rs 15,000.

However, the LG F60 was simply a low-end mobile with LTE radio slapped on top. The next LTE device was Gionee S5.1, priced at Rs 17,500.

Now, practically the same device as Gionee has been launched by Mi India in the form of the Redmi Note, but at a nearly 40% lower price than the Gionee model.

Like it is with Mi always, there are simply no competitors for the Redmi Note at this stage.

However, to buy the Redmi Note, one will have to have not just money, but also a lot of luck, going by previous experience. Registration for the 3G version of Redmi Note will begin on Flipkart on November 25, 2014 at 6pm, with the sale starting at 2pm on December 2, 2014.

Customers will need to register online before visiting Airtel stores to purchase the device on www.airtel.com/Mi.

The phone, being launched in partnership with Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”), will also be available at select Airtel stores in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai by end-December.

“The launch of the 5.5-inch Redmi Note is another step of Mi India’s commitment to Mi fans in India. It offers unparalleled performance with a larger screen at an unbelievably affordable price of Rs. 8,999/-. The 4G device, which will retail for Rs. 9,999/-, is a dual band LTE phone which will work on both TDD-2300 MHz and FDD-1800 Mhz 4G frequency bands,” Mi India said.

One of the key assets of the phone is that it is tailored to the Indian market, as it supports the type of LTE that is being launched in India — 2300 TD LTE and 1800 FDD LTE.

“The support from Indian fans has been our greatest driving force to deliver the best products ever in India. Redmi Note builds upon Mi India’s promise to bring in high-quality devices that provide an excellent user experience. We also built Redmi Note 4G especially for India’s 4G network. With its long-lasting battery life and a large 5.5-inch screen among many other outstanding features, all for an amazing price, I believe Redmi Note will keep the momentum going in India,” said Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra.

The Redmi Note devices will be supported by over 35 Mi India service centres across the country, including exclusive Mi service centres in Delhi, Bangalore and Kochi.
