MTNL offers unlimited free calls under some broadband plans

mtnlState-owned Mahanagar Telefone Nigam Ltd has made all calls free for some of its more expensive broadband combo plans.

According to the company’s tariff chart updated on its website, all local and STD calls will be free for anyone opting for the rather expensive Rs 1,999 plan in Delhi.

Under the plan, a user gets 4 Mbps of broadband speed up to a limit of 150 GB per month, and will be shifted to a 1 Mbps speed after that.

In addition, he gets ‘unlimited local and STD’ on all networks in India, including mobile and fixed landlines.

The plan is called Freedom ULD-1999.

If you don’t want to spend Rs 1,999, your free calls will be limited to MTNL network. Under a Rs 1,299 plan, you get unlimited local calls on MTNL Delhi numbers.

Similarly, under Rs 1,449 plan, you get 100 free calls to any network as well as unlimited free calls to the company’s own subscribers in Mumbai and Delhi.

In the Rs 1,449 plan, the broadband quota is 100 GB at 4 Mbps, followed by unlimited access at 1 Mbps. Under the cheaper plan, you get 80 GB at 2 Mbps.

MTNL Delhi’s combo plans begin at Rs 699, which gives 18 GB of monthly usage at 2 Mbps. However, the post-quota bandwidth is reduced to just 512 kbps.

MTNL’s plans are likely a response the flurry of 4G offers brought out by companies like Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and most recently, Idea Cellular.

All these companies are offering free data up to Dec 31 for select customers.

In addition, both Airtel and Idea Cellular are offering 4G packs as cheap as Rs 51 per GB after that.

Vodafone, meanwhile, offers 9 GB free for some users, if they buy a 1 GB or higher pack.
