Free Wifi at Mumbai Local stations extended to Andheri, Borivali and Kurla

mumbai-railway-localIndian Railways, along with Google and Railwire, has expanded its free Wifi service in Mumbai to three more stations — Andheri, Borivali and Kurla, taking the total to 16 in all.

Railwire Wi – Fi will be available to any user who has a working mobile connection on a smartphone.

The project was kicked off with the inauguration of free Wifi services in Mumbai Central in January, and a total of 18 stations will be covered by the facility.

As of now, the Western Line stations that have working high-speed Wifi facility are Churchgate, Mumbai Central, Bandra and Bandra TT, Dadar, Khar Road, Borivali and Andheri.

The Central Line stations where this facility is available are Dadar, Kurla and Kalyan. Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus (VT), Thane and Byculla are the other Central stations covered by the project.

On the Harbor Line, stations include Vashi, Belapur and Panvel.

The Railways has provided a back-end speed of 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps) for each station. Most Wifi devices, such as smartphones, however support only around 100 Mbps of maximum speed.

In addition to those in Mumbai, around two dozen more stations — including Sealdah, Allahabad, Pune, Puri, Tambaram, Chennai Egmore, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Chandigarh — are also covered under the scheme.

Other stations under the scheme are Madurai, Kanpur, Jodhpur, Gwalior, Mathura Jn, Dehradun, Thrissur, Mangalore, Coimbatore, Arakkonam Jn., Calicut, Gaya, Dhanbad Jn., Hajipur and Kota.
