LETV

The second big announcement for India is being made by LeTV — originally a content maker based in China. The company entered the smartphone market in the first half of last year and has taken the Chinese market by storm.

Unlike typical smartphone brands, LeTV has used a combination of content and hardware to increase the appeal of its products.

Founded in 2004, LeTV is one of the largest online video companies in its home country, and has various divisions that produce Music, sports and so on.

The brand has four handset models in China, including the 6.3-inch Max and the affordable 1s, both of which are seen as likely to be launched in India.

The LeTV Max comes with a 6.3-inch display with Quad-HD (4 MP) resolution and the 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 810 chipset. It also has a 20 MP Sony Exmor IMX230 camera sensor, 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage.

At present, the the phone costs around Rs 33,000 — including import duties and shipping — if bought from Chinese websites like Aliexpress.

The official India price is expected to be around the same, making it one of the cheapest hardware out there. The only notable competitors to the phone are the Gionee Elife E8 (Rs 35000) and the new Moto X Force (expected to be launched for Rs 36,000 next week).

Another highly anticipated phone is the 1s, which you can get for around Rs 16,500 via online Chinese sellers. The phone will target the mid-range market and is expected to be priced in the Rs 15,000 range.

The 1s, despite being a mid-ranger has a MediaTek Helio 10 chipset and comes with a 5.5-inch full-HD display, a fingerprint sensor, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of memory. The model is very similar to the Lenovo K4 Note and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 in its appearance and specs.

The main difference between this model and the K4 Note will be the processor as the Lenovo model is likely to come with a mid-range processor unlike this one. There is also supposed to be a 2 GB + 16 GB version of the LeTV model that costs only around Rs 12,000.

Another phone launched by the China-based company recently is the Yu Yutopia-rival LeTV Le 1 Pro, which is priced exactly halfway between the above two models and could see good sales if launched in India.

The 1 Pro has 4 GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch Quad-HD display, 32 GB of memory and is available from China at around Rs 24,000. Official India price would be around Rs 22,000 if launched. However, we’ve not heard any confirmation about whether this new model will immediately be unveiled to the Indian audience or not.

The launch will happen at 2 pm today (Tuesday) and is likely to be available on LeTV’s Youtube Channel (we’ll also connect you here.)
