Airtel, Vodafone, RCom and MTS announce pan-India mobile number portability

mnpin Vodafone India has become the second operator to announce the full implementation of pan-India number portability.

The operator said it has launched National Mobile Number Portability (NMNP) in accordance with the Government’s mandate to roll-out pan-India Mobile Number Portability services from July 3, 2015.

Competitor Reliance Communications also announced its readiness to implement nationwide MNP.

“RCOM is ready to roll out Mobile Number Portability nationally from July 3, 2015 onwards, and this will allow our customers to retain their mobile number in any part of the country and continue to enjoy our best-in-class network and services,” it said.

“Reliance Communications will also be offering attractive and aggressive plans for both its pre-paid and post-paid customers, as well as customers porting in from other networks, to ensure that this is a seamless and easy transition,” it said.

“MTS India welcomes the Government’s decision to roll out Mobile Number Portability (MNP) on a PAN India basis on 3rd July 2015,” the CDMA operator said.

“The Company is fully geared up to comply with the deadline. The move will enable MTS India to quickly and efficiently process all number portability requests. The implementation of MNP is bound to set new benchmarks in customer service standards within the Indian telecom sector.”

The National Mobile Number Portability service facilitates customers to carry their existing mobile number from one telecom circle to another across India and choose the operator of their choice. NMNP is applicable to all pre-paid and post-paid customers.

Vodafone India has a pan India base of over 184 million customers serviced through a network of over 130,000 sites, of which over 35,000 are 3G sites. Vodafone India is the 5th largest network in the world.

Vodafone also has the largest retail footprint with over 9800 exclusive retail stores across India.

“Vodafone has benefited from the intra-circle MNP that was rolled out in 2011 and we look forward to a similar response this time,” said Vivek Mathur, Chief Commercial Officer, Vodafone India.

1. Visit any Vodafone Store/outlet
2. Generate a 8 digit UPC code by sending a sms ‘Port ’ to 1900
3. Fill up the CAF and porting-in form and submit relevant documents
