Xperia C4 launched in India

Sony India today introduced Xperia C4 – billed as “the ultimate phone for selfie lovers”, at a price of Rs 29,490.

Of course, the price is a bit high for its specifications, but Sony is not exactly the cost-conscious customer’s darling. The Xperia C4 follows the launch of the E4 some months ago, as well as the launch of the high-end Z4 a couple of months ago.

“The phone features best in class 5MP front camera, a Full HD display and superior performance. The new power packed Xperia™ C4 is equipped with super-fast Octa-core processor which makes multi-tasking easy, without running out of power,” Sony said.

The C4 has features that enable it to produce better selfies than most phones. It comes with a 5 MP wide-angle front camera (25mm wide angle lenses) that allows you to capture more in each frame.

“You can now stage the perfect selfie, getting everything – and everyone – in shot. Sony’s Exmor RTM for mobile sensor, soft LED flash and HDR features means the pictures will always be stunning, even in those ‘hard to perfect’ low light conditions,” it said.

To enhance your pictures further, the Xperia™ C4 comes loaded with selfie camera apps. “AR mask effect incorporates themes that let you easily give your selfie a twist by letting you place a different face over your own face or others’ faces while you snap a selfie,” said Sony.

Of course, Sony is a few months late when it comes to such apps. HTC first introduced such apps, including morphing selfies and so on, with its Eye collection late last year.

In addition, the C4 also has features like a “superior auto” mode as well as SteadyShot technology compensates for any camera shake.

“With 13MP, autofocus and HDR packed in there is no compromise on the rear camera, which delivers great shots for those rare moments you’re not in the picture,” it said.

One of the big reliefs will be that Sony has finally upgraded its display to full HD. Despite charging a bomb, Sony had been quite content to push 720p displays on its mid-range (Xperia C) products so far.

Size remains the same as that of the C3 at 5.5 inch.

“Watching movies on your smartphone is more enjoyable thanks to Sony’s TV technology – such as Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2 and super vivid-mode – which offers amazing clarity and colour brightness. Enjoy viewing from any angle with IPS technology,” it said.

Sony also claims that the C4 delivers “crisp and clear audio quality.”

“With or without headphones, you can sit back and enjoy your favourite entertainment in all its glory.”

The C4 is slightly better designed than the C3, which had thick bezels at the bottom that made the phone very large as well as gave it a ‘small screen’ look.

The bezel size of the C4 is under control, and most of the other design elements are minimalistic. In other words, the C4 is not as radical a redesign (or even as sexy) as the entry-level E4, which costs around Rs 10,500.

“The design of Xperia C4 has also been crafted with precise detail and care to ensure every aspect amplifies the sharp and vivid display. A minimal frame around the scratch-resistant screen enhances both the viewing experience and the smartphone design, while its lightweight build feels comfortable in the hand.”

Xperia C4 comes in white, black and a vibrant mint.

Another big plus for the C4 is its chipset. The phone comes with the Mediatek MT6752, LTE-enabled octa-core chipset that is one notch above the MT6732 found in the Xperia E4g, priced at Rs 12,300 in India.

While both are octa-core and come with LTE, the MT6752 is a mid-range LTE chipset that is more powerful than the Snapdragon 610.

“Whether you’re running multiple apps, checking Facebook, snapping selfies or listening to the best music – you can do it all at lighting speed thanks to Xperia C4’s impressive Octa-core processor,” according to Sony.

The battery is 2.6 Ah (2600 mAh), which, according to the company, provides over eight hours of video viewing time.

Xperia C4 is compatible with Sony NFC-enabled devices including SmartBandTalk and will be sold through both online and offline channels.
