Eicher Motors, manufacturer of Royal Enfield bikes, said production at both of its factories in Chennai have been normalized as of Dec 14.

Production at the Royal Enfield factories at Thiruvottiyur and Oragadam was suspended on Dec 1 after heavy rains and flooding disrupted operations.

The company resumed production of motorcycles on December 7, 2015 at 50% capacity.

Enfield is India’s oldest producing bike and is known for its retro-style, heavy bikes. Typical engine capacities start from 3.5 liters. Unlike commuter bikes that are priced between Rs 40,000 and Rs 80,000, Enfield bikes cost upwards of Rs 1.2 lakh.

The bikes typically have waiting periods of several months and the floods would prolong the waiting period by a few days.

“Over the course of the last week Company production rates improved steadily as Company facilities, employees and suppliers recovered from the aftermath of the floods. As of Monday, the December 14, 2015, company is back to normal at our plants, and are running at 100% of the companies installed capacity at Royal Enfield,” it added.
