Not getting MNP code due Reliance network down? Vodafone to help

Vodafone has come forward and allowed users of Reliance Communications to use its network if they want to generate their MNP code.

The MNP code so generated can be used by the RCom subscriber to port to any operator in India, including Vodafone.

This will help those Reliance Communications’ customers who are unable to generate MNP or porting code due to network unavailability.

According to media reports, RCom’s network has been down in many areas, including the North East of India.

The Anil Ambani Group company is facing severe financial problems, and has already announced that it will shut down its GSM operations. It will remain as largely a virtual operator riding on the infrastructure of Reliance Jio, a company controlled by Mukesh Ambani, brother of RCom promoter Anil Ambani.

HOW TO GENERATE PORTING CODE

To generate the porting code on Reliance in absence of a network, users need to go to the network settings of their phone, put it into ‘manual’ or ‘search’ mode, and choose Vodafone’s network.

Their phone will be allowed to latch on to Vodafone’s network.

Once it catches Vodafone’s network, the user can send a request for porting code using the standard format — by sending an SMS with the word PORT followed by their phone number. The request has to be sent to the number 1900.

They will get a porting code.

This porting code can be taken to the shop of any operator such as Vodafone or Airtel, where they will help the customer to fill up the MNP form, and give a new SIM.

The porting process takes about seven days, after which the customer can start using the new SIM on the new network.

The Vodafone facility is available in the states of UP West, Kerala, Haryana, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Punjab, UP East, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra &Goa and Karnataka.

It should be noted that the facility is being extended for the purpose of generating an MNP code and users are unlikely to be able to make outgoing calls using Vodafone’s network before completing their porting process.
