Mumbai-based Oberoi Group has won contracts to manage two new luxury hotels in Qatar, the hotel and hospitality group said.

The first is a 250-key luxury hotel being developed in the West Bay area of Doha and the second a 148-key luxury serviced apartment building located in Lusail, Doha.

In the hotel business, properties are often owned by one company and managed by another.

The group has its flagship hotel in Mumbai, situated at the Nariman Point business district.

It also has a luxury hotel in Dubai, opened in 2013, and also has a contract to manage a luxury beach resort in Ajman which will open in the second quarter of 2016.

“Planning of both the above (Qatar) projects is well under way and construction will commence early next year with completion of both projects in mid 2018,” the company said.

“The hotel in Doha will reflect the same standards of luxury that Oberoi Hotels & Resorts are known for and the Lusail serviced apartments will also bring Oberoi’s exacting standards to a serviced apartment residential complex.”

Both Qatar projects are being sponsored by Qatar General Insurance and Reinsurance Company (SAQ).

Qatar is one of the world’s richest countries as it has large oil and gas fields and a relatively small population and area.

“We are extremely pleased to have been selected by the Qatar General Insurance and Reinsurance Company (SAQ) to assist them in the design and management of these two projects and we look forward to bringing the Oberoi hospitality to the Qatar market,” said Mr. P.R.S. Oberoi, Executive Chairman, The Oberoi Group.

The Oberoi Group was founded in 1934 and operates luxury hotels in several countries, two luxury Nile Cruisers and a Motor Vessel in the backwaters of Kerala under the luxury ‘Oberoi’ brand.

The Group is also engaged in flight catering, airport restaurants, travel and tour services, car rentals, project management and corporate air charters.
